The Penn State Scandal was first brought to light as early as May 1998, when it was reported by a mother to the University of Pennsylvania State Police Department, that Jerry Sandusky had taken a shower with her eleven year old son in the Lasch Building on campus (p. 19). This is when the life cycle of the crisis started and could have been stopped dead in its tracks. Yet when the investigation of the event was completed there was no evidence of a crime so Jerry was given a warning not to shower with any other children which he did not follow. The retired Football Coach was seen again in the shower with another boy in February 2001 performing sexual acts by a Penn State football assistant (Mike McQueary ) who reported him to Coach Paterno …show more content…
They included The President of Penn State-Graham B. Spanier, Senior Vice President-Finance and Business Gary C. Schultz, Athletic Director Timothy M. Curley and the Head Football Coach Joseph V. Paterno. After holding a meeting to discuss Sandusky actions it was agreed that they would confront Sandusky. He was told by Curley that he could no long bring young boys to the athletic facilities on campus. Curley also informed the executive director of Second Mile the charitable origination that Jerry Sandusky had founded to help disadvantage youths (p. 18). This incident was considered an non-incident and nothing was mention of it in the board of trustees meeting in March 2001. Because Sandusky was not reported to the local police department for the aforementioned incidents he continued his activities until January 2010, then the trigger event happen. The university was subpoenaed by the Pennsylvania attorney general office for personal record on Sandusky (P. 20).
