Imagine yourself at the funeral of your teenage child because of a drug overdose. Not to forget that the person who sold to them is still out there. Drugs can easily take the lives of teenagers, and change their lives massively. So don’t you think that the people who “killed” your child should suffer harsher crimes than a small sentence of prison. Research shows that a number of students have admitted to have tried cocaine. If those same students that have tried cocaine became addicted, then how many of those students either overdosed or did something illegal just so they could have that next high. In 2010, 38,329 people died from a drug overdose(teen drug abuse). Studies show that the younger the people the more likely they are to abuse alcohol. Yes, this is a long time of their life being taken. But shouldn’t there be a harsher punishment for these criminals. Drug trafficking ( A more serious crime ) is a felony, but the prison sentences are the same for these crimes. If you’re caught with drugs the police may think that you are going to sell them, also known as drug trafficking. For a person, 3-5 years in a tiny room is a long time. When time passes and they are released, who’s to say that they have learned their lesson.
