The beneficiary was a 90 year old woman with a history of a cerebrovascular accident (stroke), dysphagia- oropharyngeal phase (difficulty in swallowing), diabetes mellitus, and gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) (heartburn). She resided in a skilled nursing facility. She received special liquid nourishment (via a PEG tube) that was administered with an infusion pump over 16 hours, seven days a week.
