Nowadays, performing well is a must for athletes. To support their performance, they commonly use drugs, especially Perfomance-Enhancing Drugs, as known as PEDs. Drug comes in various kinds, such as steroids,erythropoietin, strychnine, caffeine, Nandrolone, Oxandrolone, Oxymetholone, Stanozolol, methandriol, cocaine and also heroin. For some countries, it is illegal. In US, the use of anabolic steroids for performance enhancement violates federal law. Selling or owning of anabolic steroids without a valid doctor prescription is illegal. Selling or owning prohibited steroids or trade steroids may result in jail and need to pay fines. Prison and fines doubled for those caught abusing or selling illegal steroids more than once. Athletes found using PED in various forms may also be pulled from competitions and/or lose achieved awards and medals. Secondly, PED is dangerous for health. Like most drugs, steroids and other forms of PEDs also have side effects. Used for a long period or when abused, PED can result in increased cholesterol levels, liver damage, mood swings, hypertension, aggressive behavior, irregular heartbeat and other heart problems. PED can also result in reduced athletic ability and desire to participate in sports. The level of athletic performance that will be decreased depends on the kind of drug used. For example, steroids can cause depression, which results in lost motivation and a lack of interest in the sport. The reduced athletic abilities are a clear downside of the substance abuse since it is the opposite of the expected result. Performance-enhancing drugs may hinder athletic performance. Moreover, it gives an “unfair” advantage. The use of performance-enhancing drugs is not accidental. It’s planned and deliberate with the purpose of getting an unfair advantage. Athletes who use PED are likely to perform better than without PED. The use of performance enhancers is cheating because it violates main rules of the activity. Since such usage is cheating, it’s wrong and we should expect the disqualification of competitors who are caught doping. Lastly, it contravenes other values defined as the ‘spirit of sport’.The 'Spirit of Sport' means competing fairly and performing to the best of your ability--the pursuit of excellence with honor.
