Satrapi’s graphic novel Persepolis, specifically in the chapter The Hero. Showcases how one can feel an overwhelming sense of fragmentation from torture. For instance, when Marji heard stories of different types of torture they did in prison, it gave her ideas and she decided to try it with her friends on the playground, making different types of torture. In this page Satrapi uses pathos in order to appeal to how Marji felt from doing the torture by showing Marji crying and the way Marji admits about how she felt guilt adds to the fact that Satrapi was reaching out emotionally. Adding on to the fact that Marji was a little girl at the time would make readers feel more sympathetic to her, since seeing a little girl and feeling guilty is heartbreaking
