Personal Essay: Dog Tags

One object that i own is a set of dog tags. They are metal and silver. I got them from my step dad when he was in the air force. They are not edible but metal is bland and gross. Metal doesn't really have a smell because it's so bland.Dog tags actually stink when you smell them. When you smell them they smell like a sweaty odor. Metal doesn’t have a sound unless you drop it. But when you drop it, it sounds like a coin hitting hard floor. Metal’s texture is just smooth. Dog tags are like thin like paper and smooth like paper. Dog tags come from the service you only receive them if you have done service. But hard like wood. This is my prize possession because i look up to him. I got these a couple weeks ago. I always love seeing them because they act as a protecting sign. It feels good to know i have something so special. They are imprinted and have lots of writing. When you have dog tags you get two. One for your shoe and one around your neck. They are very light and slim. They are very shiny and clean. Dog tags have your name,and your religion. Then your birthday, your number in the service and the blood type. They are for identification. They have to have at least one on at all times. They symbolize the strength and the time they did.. When i wear the dog tags i feel safe and secure. I feel closer to him. When you have dog tags, it doesn't mean you did service it just means you have someone special in your life that did. Alot of people are in the service but don’t have a lot of family. The ones that do get the honor to wear them are pretty important to them. Dog tags are pretty cool because they give you hope and security. I think that it’s the best present anyone can get. Sometimes when you get dog tags they have a little stamp because it shows what position they were in. Most dog tags are only used for identification but others are for positive things once you are out of the
