On the top shelf of my drawer lays a copy of Kyle Sun and the Olympians, my own adaptation of Rick Riordan’s acclaimed series. The booklet, starring my second-grade self, includes all sorts of adventures. I explores the depths of the ocean floor, lead the navy in a war against pirates, and invent a teleportation device that saves Batman’s parents.
Retrospectively, my comics represented a future life my younger self had envisioned. Although my aspirations to defeat mythical creatures now seem silly, I have come to appreciate the unique experiences during the early stages of my life.
As a child, both my parents encouraged me to engage in various activities, ranging from church camp to figure skating.
