Introduction: Part of my ethos includes having grit and doing things that need to get done for a bigger cause, even if I don’t enjoy those tasks. Your level of education plays an important role when it comes to future opportunities. Having diverse connections is important. Given that the connections are diverse with various backgrounds, there is a professional standard to adhere to, in order to consider other people’s culture and find common ground. Whether it be in school, with family or my career. One of the things that I learned from a Marine Corps Recruiter while trying to become a Pole for the Marines was that “it pays to be a winner.” Meaning doing things with excellence and going above and beyond the call of duty. Sometimes settling for being mediocre can cost you an opportunity, it can cost you time- as you may have to do an assignment over - that could have been done well the first time, it could cost your grade in which career and scholarship opportunities diminish as your grade lowers, or in extreme situations it can even cost a life like in battle, or emergency situations, there is no other option but to win. One of the major challenges for my career goal is getting over my General Education classes since they are required but don’t have much to do with my major. Allowing me to better understand the topic I am writing about. The more I understand my topic, the better my thesis could be. once I state the main point, I tend to be repetitive mainly because the main point has already been said. therefore, it's easy for me to want to stop there to not overcomplicate things. Something that helped me in expanding my sentences and paragraphs has been the PIE method. Giving me the ability to expand my thoughts and main ideas into paragraphs. Topic Sentences and Paragraph Development is an important skill to have in writing. Writing is a discipline that must be learned. In the book Stylish Academics, it talks about how surgeons invited a group of Ferrari Formula One Mechanics, so that they can observe how they work. The F1 Mechanics then noticed several inefficiencies with the way the surgeons did work when it came to working together and communicating as a team. Helen then proceeds to say, “academics do engage daily in a number of complex and highly specialized operations, and our ability to write effectively about our work requires not only training, commitment, and skill but also a willingness to change, grow, and learn from others.” This is why I chose to approach my Gen Ed classes such as this one
