An example of this was when I was in grade 6 and preparing for the Academic Challenge test. I got word from the assistant principal at my elementary school that I was qualified to try out for the Academic Challenge Program. The AC program became the talk of the school. Everyone was talking about it; Rumours were spreading. I heard many things about the program, including: “You get many hours of homework!” and “You’ll never get to see your friends!”. I was confused by many of these rumours, and did not know which ones were true and which ones were lies. I did not have many friends who qualified for this program, and I was certainly not a fan of homework. However, the examination date was coming up fast, and I had to make up my mind. My parents told me it was a good thing and it would eventually help me with high school and university. I was still uncertain, but I set a goal to do the best I can on that test and see what would happen. One can never know until they try! The test was moderately difficult, as I expected. The questions were not beyond grade 6 level. I finished the test feeling confident that I could make it. A few weeks later, the results were in. I made it! Today, I have become a successful student due to the fact that I strived to achieve my personal
