Personal Narrative: A Career As An Athlete

The overall goal for me as an athlete was to earn a sports jacket. In order to earn a sports jacket I have to earn 3.0 letter credits. After junior year of football I had 2.5 letter credits and I needed to get .5 which is just any credit from any sport. I decided to do the easiest thing to do to get that half a letter was to manage a sport, it’s an automatic full letter which would give me 3.5 letters. It would also give me another patch on my sleeve, so I would have one on each sleeve. My sister swam during the winter, I wanted to be in the stands cheering basketball on, and I definitely didn’t want to do wrestling so I decided to go help out swim and mange. My first few days were rough as a manger, mostly because there was nothing to do. All I had to do was fill the ice buckets and make sure everyone had water and stayed hydrated. I didn’t swim backstroke at conference so I didn’t think I was going to swim it at sectionals. Well during tapering the coach walks up to me and says hey get ready you’re going to swim against the best in two weeks at sectionals. I trained and trained like crazy to perfect my stroke and I thought it looked pretty good. I was up to the starting stands and I was so nervous that I didn’t want to get disqualified. I started and man did I feel great is was like floating on water smooth, but also going fast. I finished and looked up at the screen I had got a one minute and thirty one second time. It was 10 seconds off of my best time. Now the problem was getting out of the pool because it was probably harder than the race, but I did get out and I felt the rush. It felt so good seeing all my hard work paying off and from there it showed me if I really wanted to accomplish something I would have to work and put time and effort
