The Call Ever since I was a young girl I always wanted to be involved in the judicial system. I wanted to be everything from a cop, detective, lawyer and everything in between. It includes the study of criminal mind and how to deal with it. When my interest was first sparked, I could not imagine showing kindness to a criminal. Colossians 3:12 (ESV) says, “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness and patience,” This verse helps me to see that even criminals deserve compassion and these other traits of God. We should not jump to conclusions that they are completely bad or that God did not have a plan for them. Yes, they went off this path, but God has a plan. Kindness and other characteristics of God will lead us further than that of man such as torture and pain. This reminds me of the story of Mark 2:15-22 (ESV). This is where Jesus is eating with sinners and tax collectors. The disciples call Him out. Jesus replies, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners (Mark 2:22)”. It is not my place to judge criminals, only to study them especially their mind and their why. This is not only for fun, but to help find other people in their same crime of choice. I also have learned to have these traits for the family of the criminal. Especially if they are not also the victim,------ it could be easy to forget about them, but they played a major role somehow in this person’s life.
