Competitive sports ruined my athletic career at age 11. I had joined the school’s volleyball team in 5th grade. I love playing volleyball, it was my favorite sport. Than one game, one game is all it took to ruin my love for it. I was in the middle of a pass to one of my fellow players, and then i fell. I didn't pass out but the fall did hurt. I had been taken to the hospital where doctors had told me that I had pulled the muscle on the back of my leg, they told me I wasn’t ever allowed to play sports again. I wasn’t allowed to go back to the sport I loved, the sport I wanted to go to high school and college to join their teams. My athletic career was over at age 11. After I had pulled my muscle I thought I had nothing. Volleyball was all I ever did, but that isn’t was happened. I, instead of sitting around doing nothing, found new interests that I could do as a career.
Competitive sports did ruin my athletic career but it helped me find a new one that I love even more. Due to my, and many other peoples accidents in competitive sports many parents may say that competitive sports are unsafe for children, that they harm family relationships and at times may turn children into disrespectful people. “While teens adopt an array of new and enhanced skills through participation in athletics, teens even more notably become more rounded college applicants” (Metzl & Shookhoff, 2003 ) The reason for this is because in order to be in a competitive sport your grades must be at a certain level and once these grades hit that level being noticed more for applications could occur.
