I have always had an interest in anatomy and philosophy and psychology. Now, during my last year of high school I take both anatomy and psychology as classes. These two classes are by far my favorite.
I realized, as I stood at the counter of the only open coffee shop that early in the morning, that my exchange program was not going to be an easy task. "A duhnit, please" The waitress stared at me with a puzzled look. "A what?" "A duhnit." I pointed my finger. She inquired in an awkward tone, "A donut?" In Canada, the only option of having to learn and speak in English threw me off course. As my peers grew with knowledge, my learning remained stagnant. I couldn't comprehend the lectures from my…

sneakers, smashed. The undeniable force of gravity pulls them down as they try to counter it. There is something uniform about all of them; they gulp for air, yet don’t receive any. The matted hair is streaked with sweat. Emotions running high - is a personal record possible? After watching the boys crest the top of the pain cave, only to be met by another hill. This grassy hill has no affectionate name. I can tell you from experience it is a unfortunate sight to sore legs. As the runners fly by, the…

A month later, I received rejection emails from the universities that I have applied; time and time again, my depression worsened every time I saw “We regret that we are unable to offer you admission.” I thought that my life was over and did not go as planned. I felt so embarrassed like the time in first grade I accidentally urinated myself in front of everyone in my classroom. I wanted to hide inside a huge cave to avoid contact with anybody, especially my family. Every time I told my mom that I…

Growing up I never thought of past I found myself living moment to moment and just experiencing everything life had to offer. It’s actually quite ironic that I have learned to live this way because in my family everyone is constantly looking back at the better days. My family was social in a way that I was isolated for the most part. Being a third generation latin america caused a langues barrier for me and the other member of my family the barrier grew much larger with the fact that many values…

Today around 3:25, Mr. Brewster’s sub called me and asked if I would come and get Luis. She said that he was not listening to either her or Mrs. Konkoleski. When we got back to my room he was quiet and did not communicate. I left him alone and set the timer. When the timer went off, I asked him if he was ready to talk or work on his homework. He did state, “No” but once I was getting ready to walk away he started talking. He let me know that he wanted some food. I told him that he first has to start…

Since July of 2014, I have been an Independent, maintaining a full-time position while in school. During the summer of 2014 my father, and primary provider, passed away. As my mother and he were not married, she did not receive any financial inheritance from his estate and as a result, my family and I were left without a car or a permanent place to call home. I used the resources in my community to find temporary housing, a full-time job, and food assistance. For the duration of my senior year,…

I'm happy with the way semester one concluded. My exam results were the highest they have ever been and I worked harder than I have in past years around exam season. I did have a few bumps in the road with managing swim, homework, and other activities as well as some troubles with friend groups changing. Although I lost some of my friends, I believe that I came out with more supportive people around me! In English, I got extremely high grades on my papers and my CRJ presentation, which I got stressed…
