Narrative
Whenever I think of a good leader, the manager of my department comes to my mind. Since it was the end of the month, I had to send an analysis of the sales of the month, comparing it to previous sales from earlier that year, and comparing the sales of each product. It was a rigorous and time consuming task so I had started early that week. It was Friday, and I had almost finished the analysis. After lunch break, my co-worker informed me that the system is being updated. This was not significant news, I waited till the update was done and went back to the system to finish up the analysis. All my work was gone, my system had been disrupted by the update. I had to start all over again. I had been working on restarting the report for a few hours, it was a few minutes past nine,

Then he came back to my office, I expected that he would reiterate to me all the mistakes I had made, like not using the backup system. Then, he would tell me to make sure I fixed the report in time for Monday. Instead, he came to my office with two cups of coffee and offered me a cup. He watched me work for 15 minutes. He asked me to step back, then using some programming techniques he reset the computer. I realized that about two-thirds of what I had done before had been restored. With his help, I was able to finish up the remaining one-third of the analysis. The manager not only fixed the computer, but he showed me how he did it and taught me how to use some programs. Later, he kindly reproofed me stating that the back-up system was for a reason and pointing out my other mistakes. I did not feel like I was being condemned. In fact, I was happy to learn my mistakes and take note of them because of the way he addressed me. I was surprised at his patience, attentiveness, sternness, and ability to teach. I finished the report, he went through it and said it was good. I thanked him and then we left the
