I had just gotten a new dress that fit me perfectly. The long, light blue fabric blew behind me as I picked up my pace to make it to the school cafeteria. I swung open the door to find the table I usually sit at being cleaned. I began to scan the room, trying to find an empty seat. "Eliza!'' I heard someone say. I turned my head to the sound and saw my friends Cindy and Abby motioning for me to come sit with them. I smiled a bit and quickly walked toward the table and took a seat beside Abby. "You're late!"Abby frowned. "You know we have to meet here at 7:45. It's 8:15!" "I'm sorry, I was arguing with my dad about polotics, and you know how he is." I said, unwrapping a piece of gum and popping it into my mouth. "Well, he is the governer." Abby pointed out. "Oh, really? I didn't know." I said sarcastically. Abby simply rolled her eyes and flipped her strawberry blonde hair back over her shoulder. "So," Cindy said, breaking the silence. "Abby, why don't you tell Eliza about our little plan." Abby smirked. "Right, Eliza, do you see that boy over there?" Abby asked, pointing to a boy who had black hair, was wearing old worn down clothes, and had his nose in a workbook. "Wait up!" That only caused him to quicken his pace. After a moment, I caught up with him and stood in front of him, stopping him in his tracks. "Davey," I said breathlessly, using his childhood nickname. "Let me explain." He tried to push by me but I stood my ground. "Why Eliza? Why would you do something like that?" He finally spoke. "I didn't! Will you just listen to me?" He rolled his eyes but kept silent, so I took this as my que to talk. "Thank you." I said, taking a deep breath. "Look, I told Abby and Cindy not to do that, I knew it would hurt you, but they didn't listen. You know I wouldn't do anything like that to you. I'm so sorry Davey." He chuckled. "Whatever." He tried to walk away but I grabbed his hand. "Why don't you trust me?" Before he could speak, we heard my name being called behind us. I turned and saw Abby and Cindy. "What are you doing?"Abby scowled. "I'm trying to fix the mess you made!" I said. The two girls laughed. "I'm sure your daddy wouldn't like you hanging out with this rat again, or failing math tests." Cindy said. She had been the only one I'd told about failing most of my math tests this year. My father was very strict when it came to my grades, and it has put a lot of pressure on me, especially this last year, because I will be starting college next year. "What if I were to tell him?" Cindy threatened. "You wouldn't." I said. "I already have. Good luck, Eliza!" She laughed before walking away
