Her smile became a little wider, and the tone in her voice had more enthusiasm. Leah deals with a lot of patients with ACL injuries, Meniscal tears, ankle sprains, rotator cuff injuries (mostly quarterbacks), Achilles tendon tears, you name it she probably treats it. So going along the lines of my topic of players safety I asked her what were her thoughts about player safety was and she said, “I think player safety has come a long way with more emphasis being put on concussion testing and clearance for return to play, along with regulations against helmet to helmet, however I think we still have a long way to go.” One of her most memorable experiences with an athlete is watching him play a game after a whole year of rehab. One of the last questions I asked her was: What was one of her most memorable patients out of her entire career so far, and her answer nearly brought her and me to tears. “One of my most memorable patients I worked with was a patient who had a C1-C2 incomplete spinal cord injury. He started Physical Therapy in a wheelchair, and was unable to walk or stand secondary to weakness. By the end of his therapy episode he was walking without an assistive device, and had returned to most of his daily activities.” said
