Personal Narrative: Floor Routine

I saluted the judges, got into my starting pose, and waited for Heart Of Courage, my all-time favorite floor music to begin. When it did my body immediately began to do the dance that comes before my first tumbling pass in my floor routine. Because I had done this routine hundreds of times by now, I knew to just let my muscle memory take over, if I did this, I knew that my floor routine would be the best it could possibly be. Once I got to the corner where I would begin my first tumbling pass, I heard my lifelong coach, Jenna, yell, “Come on Daisy! You got it!” I took a deep breath and ran into my round-off, whip back, back handspring, arabian double front layout. I land with a jolt of pain in my ankle, reminding me that I’m not fully recovered yet. When I finished and saluted the judges, all I could think about was the pain I was in, so I tried to focus on my score in order to not think about my ankle. Sadly, that didn’t work, I just couldn’t distract myself from large amount of pain I was in, causing me to then think back to the day I first hurt my ankle.

We then headed out to the arena and one by one were called off by the CEO of USA Gymnastics to run up onto the floor exercise. Standing on the floor with the rest of the olympic team, I found my parents in the crowd. My mom with tears in her eyes - not much of a surprise since she can be very emotional when it comes to these kinds of things - and to my surprise, my dad with tears in his eyes too. Seeing tears in my dad's eyes, in the eyes of a complete non-emotional person, it made me realize just how grateful I should be for getting the opportunity to compete in the olympics. Even more tears came to my eyes when I saw all the red, white, and blue confetti and balloons come down. This was definitely a dream come
