Personal Narrative: Football Changed My Life

My shoulder broke my heart, but it saved my future. In that doctors office in early september I had a choice to make, finish my senior season of football or have surgery now and save your college career; it would be highly unlikely that I could have both. I didn’t hesitate, I wanted to keep playing my senior year, these were guys i’ve played with since I was in fourth grade, I would choose that over anything. It wasn’t until me and my mom were walking back to the car that it hit me, in a few weeks, I could be done with football forever.
I’ve loved football for as long as I remember, for my first christmas my father gave me a Green Bay packers football that I still have to this day. Football has always been there for me, somewhere for me to let my emotions out, football was therapeutic for me. And I never saw football hurting me like this. I always knew there was an ugly side to football, brain damage, broken limbs, torn muscles, but I never thought much of that, I always assumed I was invincible, immune to the long term effects of football.
All I could see in my future was football, that's all I thought I wanted to do, and now that was being taken away from me. I started reading stories by former football players who had their careers cut short by injuries, looking

So I explored my interests, business, sports medicine, exercise science, and shoe design were all appealing to me as career choices. But looking back on them I realized that they all connected back to football; Business, I wanted to help run a football team. Sports medicine, I wanted to work with football players. Exercise science, find optimal ways for football players to rain. Shoe design, while I have a passion for shoes away from football, I want to design cleats and training shoes for football
