Go Dixie! On Tuesday, July 25, 2017 I was able to attend an identification volleyball camp at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah. My very best friend, Ashtyn Lunt, got a full-ride scholarship to Dixie State to play volleyball. I have looked up to Ashtyn for as long as I can remember, and I was so excited to see her and be at a camp that she was assisting with. The trip started early Tuesday morning. My mom, Stacey Lunt, Mary Ann Layton, Haylee Layton, Marcie Lopeman, Maci Lopeman, and I loaded up around 8:00 a.m., and started our long trek to southern Utah. It took about nine hours total to drive there. We stopped in Flagstaff to eat and at a canyon in Arizona but other than that we were stuck in the car. When we finally parked the car I couldn’t wait to get out of the car! The first session of camp started at 9:00 Wednesday morning and I knew from the time I started warming up that I needed to play at my best. I, being in shock, spoke back and said, “It is raynee2001@hotmail.com.” She typed my email down using the notes app in her phone and we began to talk. She asked me about my grades and my future plans. Honestly, I’m not sure to this day exactly that was said, but I remember walking over to my mom with a shocked look on my face. “WHAAAT? Me? I really caught the head coach at Dixie State’s eye?” I was more than excited, finally knowing that my dream of playing volleyball after high school was a real possibility. I waited until my mom and I were alone and I told her what had just happened. My mom was just as excited as I was. We made a mental note to email Coach Felder as soon as we got home and to start working on a highlight film to send out to potential coaches.
