Personal Narrative: How Moving Changed My Life

Moving is a common occurrence, and it is definitely not an easy experience no matter how far the move is. It can have a major effect on a person’s life, especially if it involves as much instability as mine did. In my one major move, there were many smaller moves that took place within the town, along with adding more people and removing others. There were multiple reasons that I moved to Clinton. My parents had separated, we lost our house, I was bullied so bad that I would come home crying, et cetera. So, my mother packed me and my little sister up and we moved to Clinton right before I started my seventh grade year, while my father remained in his trailer he rented outside of the town of Salemburg. At first, we switched staying between the two parents, which was tough to add on top of adjusting to a new school. This led to anxiety, considering that my mother moved three times in the two years this arrangement was kept while I was just trying to achieve decent grades, make friends and watch over my little sister. However, my father decided that my mother was not in the position to take care of herself, let alone two children, so he took full custody of us and we lived with him in Salemburg. My mother had moved to Wilmington, over an hour away from Clinton, making her fairly inaccessible. I went through another move as well that summer when my father moved into a small house he rented in town so we could be closer to school and he could be closer to work. This relieved stress on my part. since I did not have to deal with the long commute from school to home.. However, the stress came back when my stepmother, moved in with her four kids, causing the total of people to increase from three to eight in a three bedroom house.
