As I continued to struggle through books about fish, trucks and giving a moose a muffin, I developed the skills I needed to read. I read everything when I was a kid. If we were in the car, watching TV, or sitting with my dad as he read the newspaper, I would read. Most of the time it consisted of random words that caught my eye, which probably annoyed my parents because they would always have to help me sound out a word. Reading didn’t just involve saying words on a page, it required me to comprehend and understand. Because of this, I rarely passed an AR test and that had a big impact on my grades.
