Personal Narrative: Hunting For Deer

It all started on the opening day of general gun season for deer. I was 16 at the time and this was the first time my dad was going to let me go hunting on my own. He would usually tag along with me but he would always falls asleep. So this was going to be great I wouldn’t have to deal with his snoring in the blind. My plan was to drive up to Brooksville where my uncle lived and camp in the WMA that backed up to his property. That’s also where I would be hunting. I had all my gear packed and ready to go I had my hunting gear, tent and sleeping bag. I also packed my rifle chambered in a 243-win mag and extra clothes just incase I get wet.

In fear of getting cut up or stuck that’s just how thick they were. I was lying in the prone position when I started to unpack my bag I removed what I needed for the shoot. So I took out my rifle and range finder from my bag and got set up. I first got my rifle set and once I was done with that I started to range things. I did this so I would have a reference point to know how far the deer was from me with out needing to fiddle around with my range finder. All the doe were still here eating acorns and getting a drink from the creek. Once again I noticed the bushing rustling and when I saw that I “Here come another doe”. But I was so wrong out comes this massive 6 point buck with a amazing gray coat due to his age. This was the type of deer I was looking for an older one with a good size rack. Not only would I be get a hundred plus pounds of meat from this deer but I would also be helping the ecosystem by taking out an old buck.
