Small chatter from the other Riders all around me. This was the moment in the Trip when it hit
Me, how was I going to communicate with the people in this country? How could I relate with these people as my family when I’ve never met them before. Like it or not, I would have a lot to learn in the next two weeks. But I still had a long road ahead of me until I would meet these family members. Being on a plane was at first terrifying for me, as I was only nine years old at the time. The first ride was from the Pittsburgh airport to charlotte. Then I would ride for about nine hours from charlotte to Germany. The Airports were very futuristic looking; new technologies and even pieces of art were decorated across the buildings. My grandparents were in airports very often, instead of being nervous as I was, they just complained. “This is ridiculous having to travel to charlotte then Germany”, was said by my grandmother. We went to Austria for a few days and what we saw was beyond comparison. It now seemed to me that all of Europe possessed a great beauty in the land. We saw old churches, historical monuments, and even castles. I got to meet everyone when we had returned. I met my aunt, uncle great grandparents, and even some friends. One thing that was quite different from the United States was the foods. Most foods my great Grandmother made consisted of baked goods, meats, and cheeses. Germany felt to me like a completely new world and I loved exploring
