I chose my brother, Daniel, as Cole. I chose him because he is very strong and tall. He isn’t afraid of anything, at least not that I know of. “Garvey feigned surprise. ‘Let me get this straight, Champ. You figure if I’m scared of you, you can trust me?”(15) As Cole says a lot in the beginning of the book, that everyone is afraid of something, but always seems to say he isn’t. As a brother, Daniel messed with me a lot, in a brotherly way, but when he went to college he changed. It seems like he matured, just as Cole matured when he went to the island. I chose my grandfather, Michael, as Edwin. I chose him because he was really wise and he knew the best for a lot of people. ‘The therapist told you only about your physical healing. That’s the easy part.’ He pointed to Cole’s head. ‘Healing up there is much harder. I don’t know what the justice system will do with you now that you’ve burned your bridges. I’ll stop by the detention center tomorrow and we’ll talk.’ ‘I’ll stop by, too,’ Cole’s mother said, her voice barely loud enough to be heard. Suddenly she reached out and hugged Cole, clinging to him. He heard her sob. Cole felt embarrassed but did not push her away. Instead, he placed his hands on her shoulders until she released him. He swallowed a big lump that had grown in his throat. ‘I’ll be okay, Mom,’ he said, crawling into the vehicle (117-118).
This shows how much Mrs. Matthews learned to care about Cole just as Tanya has always cared about her children. I chose my mom, Larisa, as Peter’s dad. I chose her because Peter’s dad worries a lot about Peter and always wants him to be safe. My mom shows a lot of concern for many people and that’s a very good quality. She will do anything for her children and it doesn’t matter how far it goes. For
