I joined Cub Scouts while in the fourth grade. From the onset of my scouting career, I heard about the goal that every Boy Scout sets for himself, but only about 5% ever reach: the Eagle Scout rank. Scouts and leaders alike discussed this rank with awe and appreciation. I knew from the beginning that I did not want to simply join the 95%, I was determined to become an Eagle Scout.

During the planning phase, I recognized that it would not be feasible to complete the project in a single step. Therefore, I broke down the overall goal into smaller attainable aims and led eight separate teams of volunteers in completing different tasks. After an investment of 162 hours in the project, we collected a total of 3007.47 lbs. 9 oz. of animal food.
On December 18, 2013, I attained the Eagle Scout rank. My five year long journey was finally complete. While I had witnessed many older scouts depart from the troop without becoming Eagle Scouts, I had not been discouraged. I had set a mission for myself all those years ago, and my perseverance had finally paid off. Remembering my journey, I recall how easily I could have simply abandoned my personal quest and joined the crowd. Instead, I sacrificed time with friends and family to complete requirements.
My path to Eagle has helped me transform from the immature fourth grader joining Cub Scouts into a high school teenager who comprehends the importance of commitment. It has forever changed my outlook on life, making me realize that what seems like the most insurmountable tasks can also be accomplished if approached with steadfast
