Personal Narrative-My Experience As A Band Captain

Being Band Captain last season was a valuable experience to help me build confidence on and off the field. During band camp, I was pretty nervous, and likely too quiet while counting in sectionals. But throughout the season, I realized that I was the one in charge, and the best way to get people to listen to me was to be loud and proud. As Band Captain, I felt like I needed to represent the band to the best of my abilities, which inspired me to work more earnestly on music as well as watch my behavior. If others were gossiping, not listening to directions, or acting up, I stepped in to tell them to focus on the task. When other leaders dropped out or weren’t available, I stepped out of my comfort zone and directed practices as best I could.
