Personal Narrative: My Experience As A Documented Student

As a former alumni student of local Marian High School, I came to face with many difficulties as an undocumented student. One of the biggest struggles I faced my senior year was hoping to attend college, but because I was born in a different country it would be difficult. What most impacted me was the financial part of college and still has. The fact that I was not able to receive any financial aid from any government program was stressing. As my senior year continued to progress, my choices of colleges became to limit itself. My classmates by the end of the first semester had either applied to all the colleges of their choice, had been accepted, or were being recruited.
Going home was another major setback, talking about college was not the major subject at my house. My mom did not think I wanted to continue my education, and even if I did want too, it was something we could not afford. My frustrations were up high; my grades and my job ethics were showing it too. I just wanted to go to a college I felt like I belonged; to get the college experience, and also help me grow spiritually and intellectually.

I was slowly losing hope, and trying to figure out if college was even for me. I later applied to Holy Cross, and fortunately was accepted. I was extremely ecstatic; being accepted was not the best part. What amazed me was that Holy Cross College granted me with a scholarship called the Juan Diego Scholarship. It would pay for most of my tuition for the four years at Holy Cross. I could not pass something that great, not thinking twice I accepted it. During the summer I worked overtime, and had a second job, to pay off my books, and my own expenses. I also bought a car, to have my own transportation for classes and my job during the
