Personal Narrative: My First Cross Country Meets In Ohio

I gazed nervously out the window of the bus as we drove into Tiffin Carnival, which was one of the biggest Cross Country meets in Ohio. I looked around, awestruck by the many tents and the sheer number of people jogging around. This was my very first Cross Country meet as a seventh grader and I had never been so nervous in my life. The sun beat down mercilessly on our backs as we struggled to find our tent in the ocean of people. Bang! Nearby, the distant sound of the starting gun signaled the beginning of the first race. Shaking with excitement and anxiety, I struggled to calm myself down as the start of my race crept closer and closer.
As I proceeded with my warm-up lap, it gave me time to fully process the chaos that was happening around me. Teams were stretching, vendors were selling gear, and competitors were rushing to their spots as the spectators scrambled to get the perfect picture. All too soon I found myself standing at the starting line, along with hundreds of racers next to me all with one goal: to win. The atmosphere was so tense you could almost feel it in the air, ripples of anxiety and excitement rolled through the crowd. But one thing remained the same, I never stopped. Up rolling hills and down slippery slopes I embraced the terrain and the pain as I ran past, straining for a glimpse of the finish line. Breath in. Breath out. Breath in. Breath out. I focused on my breathing as the last stretch of the race approached. As I struggled to keep up the pace the finish line suddenly appeared ahead. Excited I picked up my pace, as does the racers around me; I dared to think about the glorious sensation of ice cold water traveling down my throat and soothing my burning
