Growing up in South Florida, there were many aspects of my life that were unique and unlike anywhere else in the world. I was aware of that and blessed to have the life, family, and opportunities that I have had, but I do not think that I fully appreciated and understood that until recent years. I always knew that my upbringing of constantly being in or on the water had played a vital roll in my life, but it was not until 2013 that I realized there were certain qualities about Florida that had truly defined me as the person I am today. Three years ago, I packed my bags and moved across the country to central California. I was an hour from the closest beach and even when I was at the California beaches, I did not feel at home. I missed the sand that felt like I was walking through flour. I missed the constant availability of adventure at my toes. Living in California allowed me to grow as a person, as it opened my eyes to the person I truly am. I needed my family, my traditions, my boat, and the salty waters of Florida. The Floridian water is the place that I have chosen, specifically on and under the water. I love the beach, but there is something about the open waters that I am so passionate about. I love the tranquility and freedom of looking about and seeing nothing but the deep, blue swells that rock you back and forth. I love diving down knowing that you are somewhere that is virtually untouched and undiscovered. With the world that we live in today, it is hard to find somewhere to escape. My escape is the salty
