I could not understand why I was unsuccessful on my exams when I knew the information front to back. I remember the day I took my 2nd exam in NURS 125 and Perfusion was the concept. Perfusion was my favorite concept and understanding the information came naturally to me. Mrs. Payton and Mrs. Eweni knew that I would do an awesome job on the test because I was well prepared, participated in class, and knew the information. Well, things did not go as planned. I made a 58 on that test. I was so heart-broken and in disbelief. When I shared my test grade with Mrs. Eweni and Payton, they assumed that I was joking. I met with them thereafter to figure out where I went wrong on the test. I noticed a few things that had gone wrong. I read into the question, I changed my answers numerous of times, and I did not read the test questions thoroughly. After receiving the news about her diagnosis, I decided that I would defer for Fall 2017 semester and care for my sister. My mother insisted that I continue to attend school. I had to encourage myself to enroll in all 3 of the Level 3 courses for the Fall. My mother did not need much assistance as she assumed because my sister was doing so well with her treatment. Everything was going so well for me in school until my sister’s health status started to change drastically during the middle of the semester. She started to require much more attention and more hospital stays leading to me missing lectures and clinical which resulted in withdrawing from my courses. Nursing is my calling and a passion. There is nothing more in the world that I would rather do than to care for others. But during this time, my sister needed me more. The only thought that constantly came to my mind was that I only had one sister, and nursing would always be there when I was ready to go back. She is deceased now and I want to continue to pursue my career in honor of her. Prior to dropping all 3 of my courses in Fall 2017, I was successful in all of my courses. If my appeal is granted, I plan to finish the program successfully. I will continue to study hard, attend class regularly, read before class, record lectures, utilize my nursing lab, and practice
