Soccer is my passion. My love for the game pushed me to overcome my anxieties and taught me that I can be successful. Sophomore year I set my mind set on trying out for club soccer. At the end of the regular season, I approached my fellow teammates asking if they would be interested in joining a club team with me. My teammates were unable to commit to a club level sport or showed no interested. Feeling disappointed and pessimistic that no one else would join, I stayed determined to join a team.
Arriving on the first day of practice, I felt anxious. My stomach was in knots and I could not stop fidgeting with my hair. Not only was this team made up of older highly skilled girls, they were a tight-knit group having played as a team for many years. I felt so out of place. I was honored that my coach gave me the "Courage and Perseverance" award and was proud of all my hard work. My coach expressed that I deserved this award because when I joined the team I did not know anyone and that he could see I was struggling to keep up and play with the other girls. He went on to say that throughout the season he could see my improvement and had respect towards me as a player because I joined a team by myself and was able to not give up when things were hard.
