Personal Narrative: My Mission Trip To New Orleans

Throughout my high school career I have been on several mission trips with my church to New Orleans Mississippi, Duncan Oklahoma, and Stroud Oklahoma. I have also participated in my churches mission weekend where we go and help out people in our community who need help. This past year I also volunteered at restore hope ministries for a day where I helped sort food and I made family food bags for those who are having trouble putting food on the table. The mission trip to New Orleans is a week long mission trip during spring break where we go to New Orleans and help repair a church that has been devastated by hurricane Katrina. What we do there is we break up into groups and each group is assigned to a house where we typically will put up insulation and siding on the houses or we put a new roof on a house. I choose to go on these mission trips because I like helping people who are in need and because I've heard great things about these trips because of how much fun they are and how it is a great way to encounter god in a new way. Mission weekend is a great event where all the methodist churches in and around the Broken Arrow and Coweta all get to gather and help out home owners who's houses are in bad shape for a weekend. We usually will help build new roofs, siding for houses or rebuild decks. Last year I was on the team that helped rebuild a deck for this elderly lady who couldn't do it for her self and was too poor to hire anyone.
