Personal Narrative: My NJROTC Experience In High School

I believe what Albert Einstein means by his quote is that no matter where you go or whatever situation you are in, there is always going to be a set of rules that can either help or hinder you depending on what you do with those rules. You want to get good at the game so that you are able to catch those who are cheating and play fair yourself so that there won’t be any delays in your victory. I can apply this idea to my NJROTC experience in high school. My first day of joining the class I wasn’t aware that we had to wear a uniform once a week. As a freshman in high school, it wasn’t very appealing to have to wear a uniform while my friends who weren’t in the class got to wear their clothes. This was one of the rules that I had to follow otherwise my grade would fall and I’ll be left behind while the others get leadership positions and promotions.Once some time has past, I decided to give the class a try and do my best to get as high in the ranks I can. As any other freshman in the class, there was no greater honor in NJROTC than being one of the officers. The number of officers varies with each school, but everyone dreamt of being the commanding officer of the unit. Obtaining the rank of CO shows that out of every cadet in the unit you were the best and most respected by your peers. I wanted that position, but so did the other 127 cadets in the unit. There were rules that I had to follow in order to obtain the rank commanding officer. The first rule was to keep my grade at a satisfying level that will impress my naval instructors and the officers before me.
