Sophomore year, I attended a service trip in the Dominican Republic with fourteen kids and three leaders. I loved meeting new people and forming new relationships. I am the youngest of three girls. When travelling, my opinions were influenced by those of my more mature sisters and parents. Through travelling with a group of people my own age, I allowed myself to see that part of the world through my own lens and that of my peers. Travelling with other teenagers allowed me to reach my own conclusions rather than my family’s. While I loved the experience of travelling to a new place and culture, some people were reluctant to engage in our activities.
