There was a bunch of officers wearing uniforms that greeted the ferry boat as it docked at Ellis Island. I was so happy I was finally gonna be stepping on land again. The officers shouted and motioned for me and my family and all the other passengers to walk down the gangplank to the main building. The commotion was overwhelming men, women, children were struggling off the boat carrying trunks, cloth sacks, and suit cases. Officers passed out numbered identity tags which I had no idea to read because I could not read or write in English. Wearing our tags we entered the baggage room on the buildings ground floor. The officers told us that our belongings were gonna be left in here until our inspection was done. I was very upset about this because I knew no better and thought that I was never gonna get my stuff back. I felt not safe I felt like I could be taken away from my parents at anytime. So I stayed as close to my mom and dad as I could. They are the only things that I have left and I couldn't stand to loose them
