Personal Narrative: Soil Judging Contests

Go out and try new things they said. It will be fun they said. With that being said, people can be very wrong. I am involved in FFA, and last year I was taking an agronomy class to fulfill my agricultural credit. Since we were learning about dirt, our teacher made it mandatory that we participated in the soil judging contest in Knoxville. Everyday in class we read from this packet talking about how to make soil ribbons, terraces, different kinds of lands, what makes up the dirt, and anything else you could think of that would make you want to scratch your eyes out. Lets just say, agronomy wasn’t my forte. The day of the soil judging contest arrived as I came to school in my cowboy boots, jeans, and my purple volleyball shirt. My head started to ache as the air got heavier in my lungs. I had my exam card and my pencil all in the same hand. I approached the hole and by eyes got to the size of golf balls. I had no idea what I was supposed to do. Students were getting down into the hole with tape measures trying to measure who knows what. They were pounding their bony figures on the calculator buttons making it look like they were professionals. We were then supposed to give the slop of where the hole was located. People were walking, one foot in front of the other mouthing the number they were on. Then again they were putting calculations in their calculator. I on the other hand, my mind was blown. I then looked up to the sky and took a deep breath in and out. I then picked up my purple pencil and started filling in random bubbles on my exam card. I tried to the little knowledge I had and just put a smile on my face that could light up a room. I was here and there was no way of getting out know, so I mine as well make the best of
