Personal Narrative: The Suicide Squad

Boy, where has the Summer gone? School starts back up soon, and there hasn’t been one standout movie of the year. Overall this summer’s movies have not lived up to the hype. After Batman v. Superman, Suicide Squad gave DC a second chance to take over the box office and critics. Its release broke all kinds of record for August and was highly anticipated by most. Suicide Squad is a paint the numbers but till a chaotic piece of cinema.

From a narrative standpoint, this Suicide Squad is a mess. Maybe I’m just being picky, but I was subsidence in my superhero movie. I’ve seen the plot a handful of times already this year. From all the interview given it seem like Mr. J was going to be in a lot more than 7 minutes. I really like how they blended every version of the Joker we’ve already seen into to one Psychopath. He’s creepy of hell, and there are so many angles to him. I think the nailed the Joker and Harley Quinn’s messed up relationship, and I needed more of it. Leto did a fantastic job and complements Ben Affleck's Batman and the world it’s set in.

Sometimes the music is overbearing in a scene. The first act was almost like a music video. This is especially prominent when introducing the squad. Also, the music is almost alway on the nose such as when the squad is brought together they play Seven Nation Army. (Much as I love Panic! At The Disco, Brendon Urie is no Queen.) Songs that were written for the film like Purple Lamborghini, Sukcer For Pain, and Heathens fit in much better.

I’m not going to lie to you, I had a lot of fun with Suicide Squad. The cast has the chemistry, and everyone pulls their own weight. My problem is it has the same note by note action that I’ve already seen too many times this year. There is still hope of DC. With Wonder Woman and Justice League coming out next year, and looking like a blast.

This movie is a hodgepodge of so many things, and it works. Being the basic white girl I am, I love brunch. I'm smashing these two ideas into one
