Personal Narrative-The Villa Club

I boxed at a club around my house named “The Villa Club” when I was fourteen. At the club, we have experienced many challenges and rivalries. Members of the club and I were in competition with eighty other boxing clubs from different states, and each of them had skilled fighters. Throughout my time boxing, I won twenty-one out of twenty-two fights, which put me at the top of the ranks in the club. Because I was at the highest rank, I let it all go to my head. I wanted to stay at the top, so I trained a lot and pushed myself to the limits. I could be sore and would still be training since I never enjoyed losing or falling behind doing something that I loved to do. The competition day had arrived, and the club members and I were going to the arena to prep. My ribs were hurting, so I kept stretching to ease it up. As the matches were beginning, I did a few pushups and sit-ups. Before me, three of the club members went up to fight one after another. I was still sore from the training, but I was positive that I would win the match. The opponent I had to face and I had stepped in the ring and shook hands, and then the match began. Through the first round, I was doing well because I was getting more hits in, but my opponent had discovered I was hurt in my ribs as he hit me. In the second round, I was going to try to win by knockout, but he would block my strong hits and would stick and move, which caused me to go on the defensive and to block as much as I could. During the third and final round, I was really tired and winded. My hits got slower and weaker but I would still land hits. When the round was over he ended up winning, but that taught me a lesson. I learned that you should never push yourself too hard, and that resting is essential to being a great
