Personal Narrative: Utah's Vacation

Going to Utah was one of the greatest vacations I have ever been on. It was not the typical beaches and sun vacation, but a winter retreat to the mountains for snowboarding. My dad, my brother and I, in late February of 2014, got on a plane and headed out for the weekend of a lifetime. The plane took off early when the sun was still rising. The sky had painted itself in brilliant shades of all colors. My brother and I sat and gaped in awe at the beauty of the skyline and the city below us exclaiming, “It's the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen!” Little did we know there was much more to come.

From high up, I could look down and see more mountains unfolding in the distance, all covered with snow as they stretch on and disappear into the skyline. Across the weekend we trudged through ice, snow and rolled down full slopes as we tired ourselves out; however, the greatest challenge had yet to come. My brother and I wanted to try something new, the peak of the mountain. The lift only takes you so far, but the peak would mean hiking upwards to 9,900 feet. Our tired father skipped out and waited at the bottom. Up the mountain, my brother and I slowly progressed, breathing hard and crawling up towards the sun for what seemed like forever. Both of us wanted to give up and head back down. The open mountain still stretched in front of us, so we kept going. For half an hour, we hiked up the steep hill carrying heavy boards on our backs, but at the top it was all worth it. The view was tremendous. Turning 360 degrees, we saw nothing but mountains, trees and snow. They seemed to be without
