Why I want to be a Nurse is kind of complicated. So set back and get comfortable. As all great story start, it all began in the summer of 2008 when my father was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, he was 65 years old and very “much set in his ways,” he liked everything fried and had a habit of putting salt on everything.
Later that year his heart reached a stage where it was no longer able to pump enough blood to meet his body’s needs, and as such his doctor recommended that he get an LVAD (left ventricular assist device). Her name was Sylvia, and she worked in the ICU, and just by chance had gotten lost on her way home, and somehow end up crossing my path. I do not know why she decided to try to calm me down or even talk to a complete stranger for that matter. She was one of those people that always seem like they are happy, which was a little bit annoying at the time. She approached me and said “What's Wrong baby; Are you okay?” I thought she was a total lunatic. I was not her baby; and if it wasn't for her scrubs and hospital ID badge I would have never talk her. But for some reason I spilled my whole life story out to her. Which by the end she I think she thought I was the crazy one. She stayed and talked with me until my dad was out of surgery, and gave me her number to call her if i needed to talk. Just by a strange twist of fate i met her again the next day as my dad's nurse in charge of his care. She explained to me and my family what machines that he was connected to and what all they did and why they are importing. I want to be a nurse like her. I want to help as many people as I can in my lifetime. My future goal in nursing is to be a Nurse
