I had a very anxious feeling when I woke up on February the twenty-seventh. Today was the day that I had been waiting for. Today, the basketball team was traveling to Oakland Craig to play Ponca in the district final basketball game. The winner of this game would be going to the state tournament, something a Yutan basketball team had not done in a very long time. We had already beaten two talented teams, Oakland Craig and Fremont Bergan, to make it to this point, and we were very confident that we were going to get the win against Ponca.
“Let's go boys! Time to load the bus!” Coach Petersen yelled as the basketball team began to make the walk from the front of the school to the bus out front. We then loaded the bus and took off. The drive to Oakland Craig was a long and quiet one. It was a about about an hour and fifteen minute drive and everyone was getting their mind mentally prepared for the game. We are ready to win this game, I thought to myself as I looked around at all my teammates listening to music and getting focused for the game.

I was basically hugging my guy as I thought to myself. There is no way they are going to score. Ponca dribbled the ball around to make sure they would get the last shot. With fifteen seconds left, Ponca’s point guard made a move to the basket. He pulled up around fifteen feet and took his shot. I boxed out my guy and watched the shot for what seemed like an eternity. The ball clanked off the side of the rim. He missed! He had missed the shot, I cheered in my head. Just then a Ponca player who was not boxed out got the rebound and put up an easy layup as the buzzer sounded. The ball went in, and my heart immediately sank. We had lost. Ponca fans and players were going crazy as I walked solemnly back to our
