Beowulf is conceded by nature, and because of this puts himself above others for personal gain. “Grendel snatched the first Geat, he came,” (line 439) “Then he stepped to another still body, clutched at Beowulf with his claws, grasped at a strong- hearted wakeful sleeper,”(line 745-747). Beowulf did not even acknowledge that one of his men that he brought along had been killed by Grendel. The quotation proved that he was awake when the soldier was being eaten alive, yet Beowulf did not intervene. A true hero, who puts others before himself is Percy Jackson. In his books he never left a friend behind or stopped fighting to save them. Unlike, Percy, Beowulf never saved people. What Beowulf does is stop those who kill, he has never saved someone from the face of danger, like when one of his companions was being eaten by Grendel. In addition, Percy is a “confident leader”, who “inspire[s] confidence”, in his team (Feloni). As a leader, Percy makes sure every person on his team has a job to do, and has a plan. A character who has displayed his arrogance is Beowulf, he is a cocky leader and is, “dangerously complacent and arrogant” (Feloni). Beowulf is a great soldier, but as a leader he endangers his men and himself. Beowulf thinks he can take on anything or anyone at anytime, he thinks that he is invincible and forgets others are not as strong as him.
