Sixteen thousand, three hundred and six species are endangered. In the past five hundred years, humans have driven three hundred and twenty-two species to extinction. Each day we don’t do something to change this massacre, other species just decrease in size even more. If we don’t do something now, the animals we admire most may be gone.
All animals, even plants play a role in their ecosystem. Each animal or plant is dependent on another, whether it’s for food or even protection. An endangered species like the Florida panther is endangered due to habitat destruction. Floridians have destroyed most of the panthers’ habitat for housing, shops, other buildings, etc. If Florida panthers go extinct, it could throw off the whole ecosystem that they were living in. The population of the animals they ate could go through the roof. Over population of one species can lead to the endangerment of another. For example, if there are too many cheetahs in a certain area, they may eat more gazelles than can be produced, causing the gazelle population to dramatically decrease. Animals with a high demand never seem to be endangered because we’re constantly trying to create a supply of them. If Americans started breeding, and holding Florida panthers in safe captivity we can increase the population by a lot over time. To prevent overpopulation, we’ll eat the panthers, just like we eat cows, pigs, and chickens. Basically, we can create a safe demand for the Florida panther, or any non-severely endangered species by serving it as food as long as we help create a safe supply of that particular species. You can’t necessarily do this with a severely danger species, due to it being a little too risky but we can do this with some endangered
