According to Timothy Murphy, “Illegal immigration is crisis for our country. It is an open door for drugs, criminals, and potential terrorists to enter our country. It is straining our economy, adding costs to our judicial, healthcare, and education systems.” There is a major controversy over whether or not we should let these immigrants into our country, give them benefits, give them protection and sanctuary, and give them equal opportunities and rights as citizens of the nation. Various groups are going to have different viewpoints on this vast topic, based on their sources in which they acquire their information, their beliefs, and who they affiliate within politics and our governmental system. Should these undocumented immigrants and refugees be granted rights and benefits from our country, and does this follow our constitution and the principles that this country was founded on while keeping citizens safe? Immigration as a general topic has caused many divides in society, as to whether or not these immigrants and refugees entering our country have a positive or a negative on the economy and well-being of the nation’s citizens. Their main point of suggestion would be that the current system and policy needs to be redesigned to ensure that immigrants, entering this country illegally, are not granted the same benefits and rights as the nation's citizens. On the other hand, immigrants that go through the citizenship process and enter the country legally are welcomed.
