In America, we are told that until you are proven guilty you should be assumed innocent. That's not always the case. Most of the time you are presumed guilty until proven innocent. It has been drilled into us. People who have been arrested are bad and do not deserve to have freedom. Let's talk about statistics. The United States alone has 25% of the world’s incarcerated, but only 5 percent of the human population. Our prison system is costing the United States roughly 80 billion dollars annually. There are about 2.3 million incarcerated inmates, in body count: almost 1 in every 100 citizens. For one person it will cost 60,000 dollars for tax paying Americans. The war on drugs was started proclaimed by President Nixon. Till this day the war on drugs has been an ongoing battle. Some people used to think that the war on drugs was solely what it said: against drugs. We obviously now know that the war on drugs was a cover up for President Nixon’s racial stance. The war on drugs is a war on black and brown people. It is meant to dehumanize, destroy, prevent growth, and promote terror in the lives of young racially diverse men and women. With this war on drugs the amount of prisoners has skyrocketed. At the same time we attempted to make drugs a major part of our arrest packet there was a rise in prisoners. Starting from then, there was a 350 percent increase in the amount of prisoners.
