Watching your child come home from school with homework that is far too advanced for them and watching them stress out is tough. This is because of standardized tests. Teachers have little time to teach the subjects that they need to teach, with testing it is difficult to do this. Some people think standardized testing is beneficial the way it is and some want to change it. I think that they should change and reduce standardized tests. First, I estimate that the majority of students, parents, and teachers agree that too much time is spent on testing. It took so much time that even the former president Barack Obama wanted to cut down test times. It is hard to imagine that the average third grader spends an estimated amount of one thousand forty minutes on standardized tests. It is a ground breaking relief that some schools reduced their test times. Too much time is spent on standardized testing. Next, Testing takes so much time out of learning hours it can be stressful, not just for students but for teachers too. Some teachers even got so stressed that they cheated. Some teachers in Atlanta, Georgia were caught cheating on a standardized test. Test scores either punish or reward the teacher, that is why they are so pressured by it. During a test a child can get distracted thinking about how brilliant they are going to do on the test. Thinking about this too much will increase the child’s anxiety level and cause them to cry, scream, freak out, and even throw up. Under this stress most students do shoddily on the test and cause inaccurate test scores.
