A whale is a huge marine mammal with a streamlined hairless body, a horizontal tail fin, and a blowhole on top of the head for breathing. They are harmless sea animals who are being hunted particularly only for their meat and blubber. So why hunt them at all?
It is such a cruel gesture that has been happening for the past few decades. In some species of whales, the number has dropped by up to 90% as the result of whaling. Whales are beautiful creatures. So why are we killing them for resources and research we don't need? It is so unfair on the whales. No whales have been wiped out yet, but, studies show that at the rate we are going by 2020 we will have lost some of the amazing whales. By the year 3000, the whole population of whales will be wiped out.
The demand for whale meat is falling and we can’t be certain that whale populations can survive with the large scale of hunting presently as well as having to deal with other daily threats. Whaling has already been banned yet Japan, Norway and Iceland still kill 2000 whales between them each year imagine how many are being killed each year worldwide. Depending on the whales size, social structure, environment, species and type, whales diets can change drastically from small aquatic life forms such as fish, shrimp, larvae, plankton, crabs, krill and squid to large marine mammals (which are generally consumed by killer whale) such as sea lions. This is part of the food chain, which is completely natural and doesn’t affect any other species. They do not deserve to be hunted down and killed for someone else’s
