“The school day should start later for teenagers because they aren’t wired to go to bed early and they need their sleep,” says author, Dan Weissman, in Marketplace with the article “High School Will Keep Starting Too Early, Here’s Why”. Students aren’t getting enough sleep, focus, or the health they need. No matter what, students will continue to go to sleep around the same time, you can’t change their bedtime but you can change the time they have to get up. School start times should be held later for more sleep, better academics, and better health.
To begin with, although some believe having more hours of sleep don’t help much, school start times should be held in other for students to put more hours in their sleep. According to the survey taken by students, “Van Buren Freshmen Academy Survey” given by English teachers (2017), “57.7% out of 381 students sleep 6-8 hours.” This is important because high school students should be getting 8-10 hours of sleep on a school night.
