Gentlemen, I am writing concerning the recent events surrounding the Historical items at York County Courthouse. We of course applaud the reinstatement of the items in question and while you might find it remarkable we feel “any” and all views of constitutes should be fairly and equality displayed.
The media and others have been the reason for the misunderstanding of something that if properly reported and understood would eliminate any reason for rancor, misunderstandings and especially hatred. The main claim which absurd and is blatant discrimination is the claim the Battle flag, Robert E. Lee or Southern Veterans are racist, or a symbol of “white supremacy”. At present due to fake news, the media and other sources there is a demand to eliminate from history Andrew Jackson, Monticello, Mount Vernon, in addition to the removal of anything Confederate unbelievably there are even calls to disinter Confederate dead.
This is an inappropriate venue in which to discuss our views though I believe if allowed to present the facts we could resolve this matter once and for all. However, we feel we are a crossroad and feel that a compromise would not be beneficial to anyone. In the near future, efforts will be aimed at the removal of racist names, mascots, monuments; and ending the glorification of Confederate soldiers through what is termed reenacting. We also feel there could be a better use of State and Federal resources by the closing of museums and battlefields, which we feel are dedicated to the preservation of slavery.
