In the short story ,” The Yellow Ribbon,” by Pete Hamill, six boys and girls setting out to Florida on a transport meet an ex-convict, Vingo. Vingo served four years in jail in New York and has recently been discharged to go home. One of the six boys and girls becomes friends with Vingo and welcomes him to join the gathering during breaks from the long transport rides.Vingo was shy and very distant at first then slowly started opening up. He’s starts telling them about his life story and how he went into prison being married and not being sure if he still is.
